I've made Maia free to play for everyone at Lv5 or higher.
Most players have been playing against Stockfish so far. Stockfish is an excellent engine, but its moves can feel cold and computer-like. Maia was trained on millions of human games and plays like a person at the rating you choose, so a game against it feels much closer to a game against a real opponent.
The first time you play Maia, your browser downloads a 46 MB neural network model. If you're on mobile data, please keep the data usage in mind. After that, the model stays cached and games start quickly.
