I usually respond to 1. d4 with ...Nf6. When my opponent continues with 2. c4 and enters the Queen’s Gambit, I often choose the Benko Gambit. To be honest, I have never memorized Benko Gambit lines. I only know the general concepts and ideas. As I mentioned in the following post, I play the Réti Opening as White and frequently build a King’s fianchetto setup: https://www.blindfold-chess.online/en/topics/openings/reti-opening/posts/77abf2f7-8cfb-4fed-b96c-8827db6642bb Because of that, playing similar structures as Black in the Benko Gambit feels very natural to me, and many of the same strategic ideas apply. Maybe that is why my results with the Benko Gambit have actually been quite good. Still, I do not get many chances to play it, and this time I overlooked a very simple tactic.
