The endgame has plenty of patterns worth memorising too. Here is one:

In this position White is certain to promote a pawn.

Recognise patterns like this — reach a given pawn structure and promotion is guaranteed — and you should be able to reproduce it blindfold with no cognitive load at all.

That said, games where a specific pattern like this applies are rare. That is where it differs from openings, which you are certain to get use out of: both the motivation to memorise and the payoff are different.
